Does not go away: The mechanical alterations in your spine will not go away. Conservative treatment can improve pain and weakness/numbness. Not every disk prolaps, radiculopathy or spinal canal stenosis requires surgery. But: spinal cord compression is serious and has to be evaluated by a spine surgeon (neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine specialist). You might end up with severe irreversible neurological deficits.

See below: It is possible that this situation could resolve without the use of surgery. A lot of this depends on you, is the pain bad, is the numbness or clumsiness temporary or is it getting worse. Talk to your surgeon about other options including strengthening exercises that can be used to treat this condition.
