Location: Most of the time yes they need to be removed surgically but in some areas when the vein is very superficial or close to skin or bone or at the ankle then sclerotherapy is an option. Check with your doctor.

It depends: You need an ultrsound to determine the source of this problem, once that is done your vascular surgeon can decide the options which may include endogenous thermal ablation, surgery, or sclerotherapy.
