Confused by recommendations. what does a pap test for?

Abnormal cells: The pap test is for abnormal cells on on a woman's cervix. The test can detect both normal, pre-cancerous and cancer cells. It involves gently scraping the cervix to collect the cells, then they go to a pathologist who examines the specimen under a microscope. The results are then reported back to the one who performed the test. Paps are almost always painless. Good question.

Pap smear: It is procedure for collecting samples of cells from the cervix. Not sure what recommendation is in your case, but your ob/gyn doctor is best to ask.
