A member asked:

If insulin increases/decreases, will growth hormone increase or decrease?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Complicated: Insulin goes up in response to a meal which suppresses gh. Other hormones are involved also, like somatostatin which inhibits gh release. This is the reason we ask patients to fast before stim testing. Hi Insulin in non-resistant patients causes hypoglycemia which will stimulate gh release as part of counter regulation. We use Insulin induced hypoglycemia to test for gh sufficiency.
