Interesting question: Insulin resistance is associated with obesity. The exact mechanism by which this occurs is unknown, just like it is unknown why Insulin resistance causes high male hormone levels and irregular periods. One possibility is that there are different levels of Insulin resistance in different tissues, so that high Insulin affects those organs more.
