Root canal: It soungs like you have irreversible pulpitis but you won't know for sure unless you see a dentist. The normal treatments for this are either pull the tooth or root canal. Check with a dentist and hope you have reversible pulpitis.

Agreed.: Possibly you have really sensitive teeth (and this has been going on for a long time without debilitating pain). If not, it's likely you have irreversible pulpitis is likely. Time to go see your dentist, it could get worse before it gets better. Good luck!

See endodontist: See the root canal specialist - the endodontist - to evaluate the problem and advise you of your options. See this specialist because when your tooth is sensitive to both hot/cold, it usually means the nerve is dying and a root canal treatment is required to save the tooth and get you comfortable.
