A 31-year-old member asked:

whats the normal development of a 3-year-old?

Three yrs: rule of 3: Three is a fun age! most 3 year olds can do a lot of "three" things: 3 word sentences, 3-4 phrase conversations, follow (when they feel like it!) 2-3 step instructions, and can ride a 3-wheeler (trike). Three year olds have short (think 3 minute!) attention spans. For some really nice information about child development, check the cdc site (cdc.Gov) or the aap parent site, healthychildren.Org.

A 23-year-old member asked:

My 3yr old has been acting out more than usual, I am a single mom and feel terrible punishing him all the time. Should I take him to a professionalk?

Maybe.: Without knowing the full situation here, including what discipline you've used, and what the acting out consists of, it's hard to say for sure, but it sounds like the relationship between you two isn't what either of you would want. Single parenting is never easy, and working with a therapist on your son's behavior and on how to cope with it and manage it may help turn things around.

Proper safety seat : The typical 3yo can safely ride in a forward facing convertible seat (or forward facing only seat )with a five point harness.Verify that the child fits the height & weight limits on the seat & assure yourself of a stable installation. If unsure, check with a regional safe kids program for information on having your installation checked.

State resources: Most states including florida offer help for families. Child find might be a good place to start. They can assess the child for any learning or communication problems. If none are found they may be able to offer counseling or therapy resources. 1-800-654-4440 http://www.Fdlrscrown.Org/ general info from boston children's http://www.Childrenshospital.Org/az/site1385/mainpages1385p1.Html.
A 34-year-old member asked:

Is it harmful for a 3 year old to go under oral sedation?

3 doctor answers6 doctors weighed in
Dr. James Ferguson
Pediatrics 46 years experience
In proper hands no: Oral sedation should be preformed under a protocol that places the kids safety first & the procedure 2nd. If so the oral sedation is a minor issue for most kids.Things like having a nurse specifically assigned to monitor the child's airway & level of sedation are important. Using meds that can be reversed if needed is also helpful. Ask about the safety procedures involved as you consider it.
