Could be tendonitis: Pain between the thumb and index finger could be wrist tendonitis, or possibly early thumb arthritis. Otc anti- inflammatory drugs may help. If pain persist you should see a hand surgeon.

Likely arthritis: Pain from the base of the thumb commonly occurs between thumb and index. Other causes included tendinitis or strain of the muscles controlling pinch. Diagnosis is based on clinical exam by a trained physician. Best to see an orthopaedic or hand specialist.
