See Podiatrist: A thorough history and physical exam is needed with possible x-rays to determine the problem. Stress fracture, sprain/strain, gout, nerve problem are some possibilities that come to mind. If pain is that bad, get medical attention immediately.

A pinched nerve.: If you slept heavily, you may have compressed a small nerve that provides sensation to that part of the foot ( I am unclear exactly what portion of the foot you are describing exactly so it is either the sural or peroneal nerve). One is at the ankle, the other at the knee but both are superficial and vulnerable to compression. See a neurologist or physiatrist if the pain persists.

You may have : A stress fracture even though you can not recall any history of trauma. Many people have vitamin d deficiency which could predispose you to a stress fracture in the foot.
