Nerve: A nerve is a structure that carries impulses of sensation and motor function. A ganglion cyst is completely different-- it is like a bubble, swelling, or area of weakness between 2 bones, or ina tendon sheath.

Big difference: A nerve is a specialized tissue that conducts messages from brain to muscles or other end organs that allows them to function. A ganglion is the result of a ruptured synivial capsule with leakage of synovial fluid and capsular formation.
