Completely different: Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon (tendon is a fibrous structure that attaches a muscle to the bone). Ganglion cyst is a fluid filled sac that typically arises off of a joint capsule (filled with the joint fluid). It is typically benign however.

Cyst versus inflamed: Ganglion cyst is a contained rupture of a synovial capsule. Tendinitis is inflammation that affects a tendon and may cause swelling and pain. Depending on location they could appear similar.
