See doctor : If you're concerned about an infection, you should see your doctor immediately. Some doctors will recommend salt water soaks after ingrown toenail removal but that will not help once the toe is infected. An infection should be treated with antibiotics.

Soaks for a start...: An infection in the area can be treated locally by soaks - i like dilute vinegar soaks beacuse they provide an acid environment which is not conducive to most opportunistic bacteria (the ones that take advantage of an opportunity to get in). Also use a topical antibiotic cream. If the redness doesn't go away soon, you may need an oral antibiotic.

What is being done?: Are you on antibiotics? If it is infected you should be. Have you discussed your condition and treatment with the doctor? Was a culture taken to see what kind of infection is present? These are all factors in getting better. Sometimes further debridement or incision and drainage may be needed. As far as home therapy, try soaking in epsom salts twice daily and apply antibiotic ointment, apply b.Aid.
