Many reasons: There are a lot of possible answers. If you let us know where they hurt it would help. Some possible answers are plantar fascitis, arthritis, muscle spasm, tendonitis, gout, etc.

Pain after rest: This is called post-static dyskinesia. It is associated with arthritis and other inflammations. Have it checked by a podiatrist.
