They may be beneficial for those who are advised to closely monitor their pressures or who cannot easily get to an eye doctor for a pressure check. A word of caution: these at-home tests should never replace an examination at an eye doctor, especially if you are at risk of or are beinf treated for glaucoma.

Yes, in future: There are several companies working on home iop measurement devices. Icare from finland is the most advanced, and is being used for screening in some large eye clincs and ers. The unit is a little pricey for most patients to use at home as it is in the $3-5, 000 range.
