A member asked:

What happens during an endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cutting nerves: There are special nerves called sympathetic nerves. There is a bundle of them in the upper chest which go to the arm and hand. Some people have a condition where their hands sweat too much. It can be socially debilitating. Cutting these nerves can relieve these symptoms. Endoscopic means it is done with a small scope and a couple of small incisions instead of spreading the ribs.
