A member asked:

My wait for pain management is long, pcp wont prescribe any meds for chronic pancreatitis, or ra, would a new pcp possibly help? or a specialist?

Tough problem: Talk to your pcp about your frustration. There sounds like concerns about meds aggravating your other medical conditions. Local measures (heating pad, ice packs, patches) may be options. The pcp may be able to get you into pain management sooner since you have a special situation.

Need specialist. : You will get the best care by waiting for a pain management specialist. They are better trained to treat the pain resulting from your conditions. There is no guarantee that a different pcp will prescribe pain medications. The best way to mange pain is to treat the disease. I would be sure active RA and pancreatitis is being treated.
