Ask your doc why?: I dont think there is any correlation between thalassemia and chinese herbal medicine. Perhaps your doctor talked about chinese medicine in different context. It is always wise to know exactly what you really take and what possible adverse events associated with it. Many times, we don't really know what is inside herbal medicine and that could be dangerous. I think, it's safe for medicated oil.

May be: What is in the Chinese medication. Some of the traditional medications have heavy metals like lead and mercury and could depress your blood formation. It is unlikely that the herbal medication will do you any good, so why risk taking it. Wish you good health!
