I can walk without pain in my left calf but after running for about 5 minutes it tightens up and running becomes impossible. what could this be?

Sounds muscular: While the issue sounds like a muscular issue which may be improved with therapy treatment such as stretching and modalities to decrease any inflammation in the area. If it is always related to running, you may have an intermittent compartment syndrome.
