Possible infection: Assuming your bf didn't use a q-tip in his ears, he may have had fluid behind his ear drum. Then at some point the volume because too much and the ear drum ruptured. Other possibilities would include a skin condition within the ear canal. If he has pain, dizziness, vertigo, hearing loss, or tinnitus (ringing in his ears), he should see an ENT doctor soon.
