Trigger finger: It's not arthritis. There is swelling and most likely a small nodule on the palm side tendon in your hand. That nodule is getting stuck when it passes under a small pulley in your hand. Though there are risk factors for developing trigger finger such as diabetes, overuse, alcoholism, etc., it also happens without other diseases. Get it checked out. It is easily treatable.

Probably not: It sounds like you are describing a classic trigger finger. This is a condition where a nodule/swelling at the tendon sheath can have trouble moving under a pulley in your hand. I would recommend evaluation by a health care professional. These are easily treated.
