Several options!: When someone has post-traumatic swelling of the knee, i aspirate it immediately. If there is pure blood, then some internal structure is almost always damaged, i get an mri-if positive, refer to orthopedics. If clear, inject with steroids and wrap. I see no harm in waiting one week for your appointment.
