2.5 litrs of fluids : You should drink at least 2.5 litres of fluids per day and avoid foods cntaining high oxalate and avoid heavy doses of vitamin c, low sodium 2gms or less and high calcium foods, minimise the protein intake when you have recurrent stones.

2.5 litres of fluids: Most important is to drink 2.5 litres of fluids daily, avoid high doses of vitc, restrict foods containig oxalate, increses calcium and less than 2 grms of sodium daily and in case of recurrent stones restrict amount of proteins.

Not food but herbs: I don't know of a food that will break up stones but there are various herbs known to help, including golden coin grass and chanca piedra. See http://www.Naturalnews.Com/032051_kidney_stones_jin_qian_cao.Html & http://rainforest-database.Com/plants/chanca.Htm magnesium does not break stones up but has been proven to decrease incidence of kidney stone recurrence by 90%.

Oxalate stones: Avoid dehydration; Follow Diet: avoid spinach, rhubarb, strawberries, nuts, chocolate, tea, wheat bran, and all dry beans; increase Citrate: orange juice 8 oz twice daily; ReaLemon extract: 5 tblspns per day; increase fluid 4 liters/day; only 4 oz meat/day; 4-5 fruits/day; maintain low salt; egg white 2 per day as protein; 25 mg HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) daily to reduce Ca in urine
