Sobriety is the goal: One can not quantify when and how you will need the support of a 12 step program like alcoholics anonymous. It would nice if you could just stop being alcoholic. The bottom line is that sobriety is a day by day, lifelong endeavor. Aa is the backbone of a good sobriety program. This is a process - not just a number of meetings to be checked off on a calendar.
