Multiple causes: Postoperative nausea and vomiting is the most common complication immediately following surgery. Control of nausea or vomiting is necessary for discharge from the pacu regardless of whether the patient is going home or being admitted to the hospital. Post surgery nausea or vomiting can occur from anesthetic types, specific surgical procedures, and specific patient types.
