Variable: Mild infections may occur with mild symptoms of fever with headache. More severe infection is marked by quick onset, headache, high fever, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions (especially in infants) and spastic paralysis. It is the leading cause of viral encephalitis in asia. It is transmitted by rice field mosquitoes.
