See below: Cryptosporidium is found world wide except in antartica. Only 2426 to 3793 cases per year were reported in the usa from 1995-2002. The number of reported cases increased to 8000 per year from 2005-2007. Estimates suggest that more than 300, 000 persons in the usa are affected each year. The difference is caused by the underuse of diagnostic tests and underreporting.

Cryptosporidiosis: According to the CDC, from 2009–2017 there were 444 outbreaks with 7,465 reported cases in the US. It is the #1 cause of diarrhea outbreaks linked to water in the US. Cryptosporidium dx: acid-staining test of stool or biopsied intestinal tissue & enzyme immunoassays for antigens.
