Unlikely: Acute appendicitis causes severe pain that, left untreated, will lead to perforation within a few days of onset; it is not a chronic condition. With rare exception, the only place a doctor should recommend an appendectomy is in an er setting. If this recommendation was made in an elective/office setting, you might want to get a second opinion.
