A leg infection : Is a broad term. Any infection can potentially turn into an osteomyelitis but, i don't know that i would jump to conclusions. There are ways to make the diagnosis i.E bone scan, mri, following certain blood markers like ESR and your white count. If indeed in an er you will not be discharged if you have osteomyelitis, they will start some form of treatment.

PROBABLY NOT: At this point, it sounds like a soft tissue, not bone, infection. Osteomyelitis is diagnosed first and foremost by a good H+P, followed by x-rays, blood work, and maybe an MRI or bone scan. Continue to follow-up w/ your doctor so she/he can follow your progress. Dr. Latva
