Ideally no medicines: Panic, although a sometimes difficult to treat condition, can be effectively treated with psychotherapy. Relaxation training, diaphragmatic breathing, and cognitive behavior training often can eventually provide relief. Benzodiazepines are sometimes utilized initially to stabilize symptoms ("chill pills") but best not chronically. A number of antidepressants approved for acute or chronic use.
