Pregnancy and cold: Most pregnant women do well with a having a simple viral illness like a cold, however, they are at higher risk of developing complications like pneumonia. If you're having high fever, productive cough, feeling nauseated with muscle aches, and chills, i would absolutely check in with your OB or primary for a thorough evaluation.

General rules: Most minor infections like a cold will have no effect on your baby. To bother baby a germ needs to get to them through the blood or make you so sick you are in real trouble. Since simple infections like colds, UTI's, ear or sinus infections tent to remain localized, they are unlikely a problem.Things like the flu, measles or other germs that enter the blood are a problem.
