Few basic tests: Urine routine to r/o protein leak , blood chemistry -called basic metabolic profile - which will show urea , creatinine which are 2 important direct values related to kidney , if they are higher as in dm and htn, it is significant. Blood sugar, potassium level are the tests indirectly tell the severity of dm, and kidney dz respectively. Potassium is excreted by kidneyand high when diseased by dmhtn.
