Itchy eyes: Do not scratch your eyes, or you may suffer a corneal abrasion. Rubbing the eyes may only make the allergic symptoms worse. It may be better to try an allergy drop such as pataday, lastacaft, (alcaftadine) elestat, or zaditor. Most of these medicines can be prescribed by your ophthalmologist. Zaditor is available over-the-counter.

Rubbing: Rubbing your eyes is never recommended. Not only is it unhealthy, it will likely cause even more histamine release and make the itching even worse.
