Yes: Adults and older children can take allergy pills such as claritin, zyrtec, allegra, or benadryl (diphenhydramine). Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is sedating. The allergy pills help with allergies in the eyes, nose, skin, etc... However, eye allergies sometimes need prescription eye drops, nasal sprays, or singulair, for extra help with symptoms. A few people are allergic to one antihistamine, but can use the other antihistamines.

It may be: If antihistamine eye drops do not do the trick, oral medication may help. But beware: if you take oral antihistamines for an extended period of time, you may develop dry eyes, which can make the allergic eyes feel worse. Artificial tears may be useful if you must use pills to control your allergies on a regular basis.
