Depends on setting: This all depends on your setting. At home, copious amounts of clean water flushed through or past or over the wound is best. Do not use toxic agents such as hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, bleach or acetic acid.

Superfast healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected.

Wound care: Gently wash the area with mild soap & warm water; rinse; pat dry; apply clean dressing if one was present (ideally, antibiotic ointment, non-stick dressing, topper gauze/tube gauze if available & appropriate to the wound site). Watch for signs of infection: heat, redness, increased pain, pus, separation of wound edges.
