What's an effective treatment for a racing mind?

Mind quieting: Is helped by focusing on what you are doing at the moment & gently refocusing when your mind wanders. Be aware of all your senses. Notice what your mind races about & figure out what your concern is. Practice meditation or relaxation techniques. Biofeedback (www.Bcia.Org or www.Aapb.Org) & counseling (psychotherapy) can help you learn why your mind is racing & how to calm it.

Depends on the cause: A racing mind can arise from many causes, such as drugs, major mood swings, thoughts that are disconnected from reality and more commonly, worrying a lot. If racing thoughts are causing problems for you, request an evaluation by a psychiatrist.

Here is a quick tip-: If you can find a quiet place - do so. Breath in slowly; deeply through your nostrils. Fill your lungs with air (but not to the point of discomfort). Hold for a count of six then slowly begin to exhale through an open mouth. Repeat at least 12 times, longer if you need to. However, racing thoughts can be caused by many things, to include anxiety, panic, mania, hypomania, stress, medications etc.
