A member asked:

What is the difference between the medications neurontin (gabapentin) and lyrica (pregabalin)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Basically price: Gabapentin is older and available generically, so much cheaper. Lyrica (pregabalin) is newer dosages are different and somewhat less frequent than gabapentin. Lyrica (pregabalin)- because it is newer has more indications ( labelled uses- ie postherpetic neuralgia and fibromyalgia) but Gabapentin will work just as well. Gabapentin(neurontin) was originally marketed for seizure disorders but more commonly used for neuralgi.
