Referred pain: That pain ascribed to "left over gas", during the surgery, your diaphragm is moving with the ventilator and it's stretched by the pneumoperitoneum/gas expansion. Your diaphragm gets irritated and leads to pain that you experience in your shoulder. It is a temporary situation; should respond to tylenol, (acetaminophen) slow deep breaths and not last beyond a few days. If it persists, get evaluated.
