Biopsy: The best way is a biopsy in the lower leg. This is relatively painless and only requires some local anesthesia in the skin. Most small fiber neuropathies begin in the extremities. Facial numbness is more concerning for a possible central nervous system issue. I would recommend seeing a neurologist.
