More white matter: Long term contrast studies demonstrate normalization of white matter volume (part of brain where connections and neural activity occur) in stimulant treated adhd patients compared to untreated adhd controls. As much as 20 % of white matter is lost if the adhd person does not get a stimulant. That is emphatically why the amer acad peds recommends all children be treated with a stimulant medication.
