Inhalers: Most steroid inhalers are safe during pregnancy; rescue inhalers (albuterol) may get in the breast milk, but are relatively safe compared to death from asthma. Talk to your OB or pulmonologist about your disease and your concerns re: breastfeeding.

Asthma/breastfeeding: Most asthma medications are considered safe in pregnancy and when breastfeeding. Inhaled steroids and bronchodilators do not reach significant levels in serum or breast milk and are of no concern for the breastfeeding mother. . Oral steroids such as Prednisone penetrate into the breast milk poorly and are safe for short-term use. Singulair (montelukast) can be used down to age 6 mos, so should be safe.
