A member asked:

What could it mean when you pass a very small blackish blood clot during the 6th week of a normally developing pregnancy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Bleeding in early pregnancy is common - about 1/3 of women may have some degree of bleeding. It is important to establish that the pregnancy is in the uterus and not an "ectopic pregnancy " which can be life-threatening. A sonogram will help establish the location and health of the pregnancy. It may also be able to determine the source of the bleeding. One's blood type should also be checked.
