I had my subungual hematoma drained and i'm still experiencing increased pain in my big toe. is an infection setting in now?

Possibly: Or it just could be sore and needs to time to heal without pressure on it. Infection will typically take at least 3 days to set in. Ask your doctor, he should be able to answer any questions you have and provide help.

Infection: After draining a subungual hematoma, it is not unusual to get an infection under the nail that was lifted. Pain increases with infection. Go see a podiatrist to have your nail removed and some antibiotics.

Signs of infection : Are redness, swelling, pus, warmth to the region, if you see any of these cardinal signs then to is a possibility. Although, the blood was drained it is plausible you may have a concomitant ingrown toenail, so i would look for that as well.

You may or may not.: You should have a x-ray to rule out a fracture of the toe bone.
