Fissures on dry skin are common, especially on fingers and toes. If your fissures are not red, painful, and oozing pus, they are probably not infected. Apply an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin or Bacitracin and cover the fissures with a bandaid. Change bandaid daily and reapply ointment. If that doesn't work, you will need to consult your doctor or a dermatologist.

For prevention icracking dry skin by rubbing vaseline petroleum jelly to keep the skin moist. If that isn’t enough then at night putting your foot into a plastic bag with a sock over it will help keep it moist overnight. This is called an occlusive dressing.
