It varies : Most pregnant women will be fine with a hemoglobin as low as 8, but I have seen asymptomatic women with it in the 5's. Because of an increase of blood volume in pregnancy low hemoglobins are better tolerated than usual.

Depends: It depends on how fast the hemoglobin level drops, a slow decline may not result in symptoms with hemoglobin as low as 5.0 gm.
