A 69-year-old male asked:

My right ankle and foot are swollen to about 30% larger than usual. i can't wear boots on that foot now. the right side ofmy ankle is purple. what should i do?

Bruise: It sounds like you have injured the ankle & created bruising & swelling. I would use ice, elevation and compression. If not better in a couple of days see a doctor.

X-ray: Swollen ankle with purple equals trauma unless proven otherwise. I would get an x-ray to rule out a fracture, then an exam to evaluate. Purple is never good.

So we can : Establish something is wrong. The problem is not enough info is given for a diagnosis and so an in person office visit to a podiatrist who can x- ray the foot and ankle and see and examine the foot is recommended.

Few options: It could be a local issue such that you may have an ankle injury.Or you may have a vein problem where your veins are not working.
