A member asked:

Just got my foot out of a boot for 8 weeks due to an ankle fracture. my foot is swollen and purple in color. i was told to start walking on it with no restrictions. is this normal?

Try walking and that would help the muscles that were not in use be strengthened so the fluid would be mobilized and you should have less swelling and improved circulation. Your foot would let you know the restriction so you could graduate your activities as tolerated by the foot.

Before you start ambulating on the extremity you need to start your range of motion and strengthening exercises training programs to protect yourself. If you are premature you could re-injure yourself and it could be worse. Seek the help of a physical therapist to get started on a program before ambulating on the extremity
