Not usually: A 2 vessel cord (single artery) is not an unusual finding & we usually perform growth ultrasounds to ensure good fetal growth. A high resolution ultrasound is also performed to evaluate for any anomalies other than a 2vc. Since you have twins, this will be done anyway to follow growth of both of your babies. Follow your obs directions and congratulations on your twins.

Maybe: Single umbilical artery occurs in up to 1% of all pregnancies. In 25%, the baby may have abnormalities of the heart, skeletal system, and kidneys among other things. Your doctor may want to send you for a higher level ultrasound study for a more intensive fetal survey evaluation. If other problems are found then genetic counseling is often obtained .Remember, in 75% there are no problems.
