Treat the person: Many people with a uric acid of this level and normal kidney function testing have no problems, including no gout. If it not troubling you, consider leaving it alone. Life's too complicated as it is to alter your diet to "treat a number." if your physician has not urged any course of action for you, then consider doing nothing.

Need to treat!: Hyperuricemia will lead in time to urate deposits in your joints. Gout will follow! also kidney stones and uric acid nephropathy will ultimately develop. You should be treated so none occur!

Why?: Depends on why. Do you have gout? If so, then yes, lower, with both diet and meds to a goal of less than 6. If no gout, then talk to your doc. Uric acid elevation has been seen with cardiovascular disease but no evidence for urate lowering therapy yet.
