Had an mri on my hip that showed a laberal tear but the orthopedic doesn't seem to think that is what is causing my hip pain, and now wants an mri of my back...why?

Hard to say: While the labral tear may be causing some pain in your hip, your md must think something else is going on he probably wants an MRI to see if you have a herniated disc which may be causing some radicular symptoms down the leg which includes the hip area obviously you don't want to have an arthroscopic procedure on your hip and then find out the pain was coming from a disc in your back.

May be looking : May be looking for other causes before recommending a hip labral tear operative procedure. If you are having groin pain with clicking or catching or locking or reduced range of motion or sharp pain in the groin with certain movements then this would go along with the labral tear. Low back or posterior buttock and sometimes groin pain are coming from the lumbar spine nerves.
