Steroid injection: is supposed to provide anti-indlammatory effect, reducing swelling and amount of pressure and irritation of the nerve roots involved in the pain. It is still matter of the sciebrific debate because, while helpful in some patients, it could not be unquivocally proven that epidural placement of corticosteroids is superior to the systemic effect when administered orally or iv, as far as I understand
